Sherlock Holmes hit the big screen on Christmas day. The movie stays true to the classic Sherlock Holmes—mystery. However, it also brings in a lot of action.
From the moment the film starts, opening with dramatic music and a strange seemingly, dark gathering, viewers are pulled into the action and the storyline.
Robert Downey, Jr. played his part as Sherlock Holmes as if he had been born to play it. Holmes’ dry humor fits Downey perfectly, not to mention the flawless accent. No other actor could have pulled it off as well as he did. Jude Law and Mark Strong were also great choices for Watson and Lord Blackwood.
People who have trouble paying attention during movies will probably not like Sherlock Holmes; when Holmes decides to divulge information about a certain case he dumps a load of information in a short amount of time. Those who cannot follow will most likely become lost very quickly.
I admit, there were several times in which I became lost, but luckily, I was able to recover and pick back up on the story.
The suspense and tension the movie builds from the beginning keep viewers on the edge of their seats. But comic relief provided by Holmes’ dry humor and Watson’s confusion keep it from getting too intense.
Although the movie is mainly mystery and action, it also saves room for romance as Watson plans to get married, and Holmes is reunited with a woman he once loved.
Sherlock Holmes will appeal to most anyone because it has a little bit of everything: suspense, humor, mystery and romance.
