Leesville Road High School, a school of 2250 students, is notorious for its heavy, morning traffic. The large plurality of students and parents driving to school continue to wreak havoc on the surrounding roads.
I can recount, freshman year, riding with my older brother to school in the mornings. Despite living a couple of miles from the school, our commute often took greater than 20 minutes.
The line usually backed up all the way to the Springdale pool off Leesville Road. No matter where students went, traffic was backed up every direction.
This year, traffic volume dramatically decreased. Now, I arrive at my parking space within 10 minutes. Road rage and the feel of a morning rush is no longer present. Other students share similar feelings.
“I usually leave my house around 6:35 to eat breakfast, then I arrive at school 10 minutes later. I still feel like I’m the only one here,” said Carter Hering, senior. The question must be asked, where did all the students drivers go?
“I think since it is early in the year; many people have not received their parking spots,” said CJ Cox, senior.
It is quite obvious that the morning traffic will pick up in volume again once more sophomores and juniors begin driving. Nevertheless, students and the large yellow buses continue to celebrate the unusually light traffic.
Less traffic means more sleep and less stress for students.
“Yeah, I sleep in,” said Cox.
