The start to Environmental Club

Environmental Club’s first meeting was September 9 during SMART lunch. Supervised by Dr. Stone, the club’s first meeting had students from all grades attend.

The club’s focus is to make the environment a better place, especially Leesville’s environment. The club will plan community service projects and clean up around the school. On the first day, club members made posters to put around the school encouraging recycling and to discourage littering. The posters were only a start to the club’s efforts to make Leesville and the environment a better place.

The clubs members ranged from new freshman to seniors returning for their fourth year. The focus was not on how much members know about the environment, but how much members care to help and learn.

“I joined [the club] because I wanted to be involved in something that was fun and helpful to the community,” said Matthew Wagner, a new member to Environmental club.

A change from last year, the club will be held the second Tuesday of every month during smart lunch. The new change was a success for the club, bringing more members than previous years. The meeting schedule is easy for members to accommodate and will help the club achieve their goals of bettering the environment.

Dr. Stone’s room, room 245, will be the regular location for all Environmental Club meetings.
