On Tuesday, September 16, the Panther Creek community was rattled by an automobile collision that involved three of Panther Creek’s students. Laura Yost, Ryan Yost and Spencer Saunders were in the car. Laura Yost was in critical condition for six days at Duke University Medical Center but passed away at around 2 a.m Tuesday morning.
A sea of blue was seen on the Panther Creek High School campus Wednesday as the students held a vigil to show their support for Yost.
Yost played at CASL soccer club.“We would like to come together in support of Laura and the Yost family,” CASL said in an email to families.
All the teams this past week have been sporting blue tee-shirts to show their concern and compassion for their fellow CASL player. Yost’s team also let go balloons at the end of practice but they also wanted to do something else so their teammate with be with them every game.
“We will wear blue tape around our wrists for every game,” said Reagan Norvell, a freshman who plays on Yost’s team.
T-shirts are being sold that feature a soccer ball with her initials in the middle of it. All proceeds are going to the Yost family to help pay off the medical bills.
The Wake County community is also unifying to help the Yost family during this difficult time. Despite all the high school rivalries, different student bodies are joining each other in prayer circles to help comfort one another and the individuals involved. These include Green Hope, Cary and Apex high schools.
It is very apparent that this community is rallying behind Yost by all the social media posts. On Twitter, #PrayForLauraYost and #RIPLauraYost are trending across networks. Everyone from her close friends to complete strangers are sympathizing for her family.
Yost’s service Saturday brought hundreds of people from all over Raleigh together to celebrate her life. Yost’s service was held at St. Michaels church in Cary.
