On Sunday, October 5, many people spent their day at St. Francis of Assisi for Francis Fest. The event started at 12:30 and came to end at 4:30.
Francis Fest is a large carnival, that had a number activites for any attendee. Many of the booths lined up had crafts, such as painting feathers or tie-dyeing T-shirts. It also had an assortment of food trucks. Inside Claire Hall, bouncy houses were set up.
Habitat for Humanity was also present at the event. Volunteers worked throughout the day to build the frame for a house. Habitat for Humanity builds houses wall by wall at different locations and then transports them to the future site of the house. At the end of the day, the group had finished building the frame for the walls.
The staff consisted of volunteers– everyone from St. Francis’ priests to students– helped make sure the festival ran smoothly. Even though some booths were overwhelmed at times, the staff kept calm and worked through it without a problem.
The craft booths required a red Francis Fest wristband in order to participate. Wristbands cost $10 each for anyone not preregistered. This helped raise money for the church. Although participants needed to buy wristbands, everything else was provided for the booths.
Food trucks also gathered in a semicircle with six different types of food. Italian ice, hot dogs, and barbeque were some of the choices the food trucks offered.
“You meet a lot of people. It’s fun, and you’re with people who actually want to be here,” said Meagan Oliveira, a volunteer at Francis Fest.
