Leesville hosts annual Community Night

Leesville Community Night was held Friday, October 17 on the side teacher parking lot. Leesville students, clubs and staff members came together to set up a night of fun. The Community Night was open to the public offering food and activities for all ages.

Clubs such as Latin Club, Key Club, Model UN, FBLA, Spanish Club, DECA, French Club, NHS and FCCLA participated, organizing fun activities like cornhole, karaoke, live music, dancing, and a raffle. The clubs took advantage of the opportunity, charging the contestants for the games.

Most of the people that went there were elementary kids with their parents. A lot of teachers also attended the event with their children, such as Ms. Mosley and Señor Ross.

Leesville has hosted this event for four years, but up until last year it only consisted of selling food and drinks.

Despite its limited turnout, it turned out to be a relaxed and familiar afternoon.

Students and families enjoyed the variety of games and prizes that Leesville clubs provided. “The corn-toss game was the most fun; it was cool to talk with people I didn’t know,” said Itzel Castellanos, a junior at Leesville.

Many members of the Leesville community came out to share a night of socializing and eating. The night offered a variety of local food trucks and sweet treats from Chef Goins’ Foods and Prostart classes. “The experience was very entertaining; we had a really good time making the [caramel] apples. We of course had to taste test each kind,” said Goins.

Community Night was also a way for Leesville clubs to fundraise to support the clubs. Money clubs collected went to help with scholarships and payments for travel. Skills USA club put its money collected from the night into scholarships for members and the club’s regional community.
